Primary muscles worked: Biceps Synergist Muscles: Brachialis, Forearms Mechanics: Isolation Equipment: EZ Bar and Preacher Bench How to perform the exercise: To perform the EZ Bar preacher curl, the athlete should sit at a preacher bench and grab the EZ Bar with an underhand grip. The elbows should rest in the middle of the slant pad, or it may be more comfortable to have the elbows located near the top right over the lip of pad. If this position is hard to reach, the seat of the preacher bench may be adjusted. Once this position is reached, the athlete should try and bring their arms from full extension to a flexed state. The athlete will bring the bar up towards their shoulders in an arc like path, bending at the elbow. Once the EZ bar is about two to three inches away from the shoulder, the athlete may return the weight to the starting position. Spotting the exercise: The EZ Bar preacher curl may be spotted by standing in front of the athlete or in the kneeling position. If the athlete begins to struggle, the spotter may apply even, upward force, on the EZ Bar to assist the athlete with completion of the lift. Sport specific application: The EZ Bar Preacher curl is highly useful in sports the require bicep support and power. These sports include bowling, underhand throwing primarily in softball but sometimes seen in baseball, and certain arm movements in tennis shots. From an overall strength perspective the EZ Bar Preacher Curl is excellent for isolating the bicep which athlete's may need work on to balance total arm strength. |
