Primary muscles worked: Biceps Secondary Muscles: Forearms Mechanics: Isolation Equipment: EZ Bar How to perform the exercise: To perform the standing EZ Bar Curl, grab an EZ Bar with an underhand grip standing tall and with good posture. The hands and arms should be positioned at the side and in close to the body. Next, curl the EZ Bar up contracting through the bicep until the bar is about 1 to 2 inches away from your shoulder. Next, lower the bar back in to starting position and repeat. Make sure to keep the elbows locked in to the side of the body, and do not arch your back or swing the weight. Spotting the exercise: To spot the standing EZ Bar curl, stand in front of lifter. When the athlete begins to struggle, apply upward force on the bar. Utilize just enough so that the athlete can perform a full repetition of the lift. If the athlete has trouble keeping the elbows in to the side, stand behind the athlete and assist by placing the hands on the elbows and gently keep them to the side of the lifter's body. If the athlete has trouble with arching the back have them stand against a way, supporting their back and allowing them to keep it straight. Sport specific application: The EZ Bar Curl is excellent for developing power in bowling. Also, EZ Bar Curl is also important for fast speed pitch softball. Tennis players will also benefit greatly from using the EZ Bar Curl. In general, the EZ Bar Curl is great at developing overall bicep strength and power, especially in athlete that use an up and under technique with their arms. |
