How To Perform The Dumbbell Upright Row

  • To perform dumbbell upright rows, you should first grab a pair of dumbbells with an overhand grip so that your palms face your body.
  • Your arms should be at full length against the body.
  • Next, you will begin to lift the dumbbells up towards your chin keeping your hands close to your body.
  • As the weight is coming up, you should allow your elbows and upper arms to become parallel to the floor.
  • You should attempt to bring your hands up towards your armpits.
  • Once your upper arms have become parallel to the floor, you may lower your arms back to full extension.

Dumbbell Upright Row Tips

  • Upright rows can place a lot of stress on the shoulder joint; therefore, if you have shoulder issues you should select another exercise.

Dumbbell Upright Row and Sports Application

The dumbbell upright row can work great for athletes that need their shoulders and traps to work in conjunction to perform their sports skill. Although a great exercise because of its ability to save time with two muscle groups being worked simultaneously, athletes with shoulder problems should avoid this exercise due to the stress placed on the shoulder.
