Speed

In athletics, speed is generally described in various ways; however, a more precise definition of speed is the ability to move through the full / desired range of motion as fast as can be controlled. This is speed is also referred to as straight-ahead speed.

Agility in the realm of athletics is more properly recognized as side to side or lateral speed. Agility is also defined as the ability to control change in directions while maintaining speed, balance, and posture.

Quickness

Quickness can also be referred to as reaction time, or the athlete's ability to read and react to game or event situations. From a more scientific standpoint, quickness is the ability of the body to achieve maximal force production through the three planes of motion during the movement phase.

It provides for smooth, efficient use of the target muscles, and aids in injury prevention in certain scenarios. Flexibility also allows the athlete to utilize full range of motion, which leads to proper balance, increased power production, and improved muscular endurance.
